Q: Will the app share my personal details, like my real name and address, with health officials?

A: Yes. The app will report the full test result information to the public health officials in your state, including personal details. This is in order to comply with guidance from the FDA that was issued early in the pandemic which required all non-laboratory COVID-19 test results to be reported, and recommended the use of a mobile app as a reporting mechanism.

Detailed answer

The data points that are visible to the test provider include:

  • test result (positive, negative, invalid result)

  • the result photo

  • location of the test (if you have allowed the app to use location services)

  • the date and time of the test recording

All the other data you entered (date of birth, address, sex, etc.) is not shared with the test provider. They cannot identify who you are, or access your profile.

  1. You can choose not to share your location - but we recommend that you enable it to allow health authorities in your state to monitor COVID-19 prevalence in your community.

  2. Your data is protected under law and encrypted in transit between the apps and the servers. It will only be used to make the product (test and app) work smoothly. You can access the app privacy policy by going to Menu > Consent in the app.

  3. Your data is stored and processed on a secure and compliant platform, and the company that developed it operates under an ISO 13485 certified Quality Management System. ISO 13485 is the international standard which applies to all medical devices and accompanying software. The platform is compliant with HIPAA and GDPR data privacy and security regulations.

  4. The developer undertook an independent third-party security audit which evaluated the platform as robust and secure, with no critical vulnerabilities found.
